What is this superhost thing I keep hearing about on Airbnb? If you were to ask that question to an Airbnb beginner they probably wouldn't have a clue without doing a little reading. When I first began learning about Airbnb I kept noticing a pattern when looking at potential places to book. Most of the best reviewed host by short term tenants had this golden badge thing attached to their host picture. This badge was the Airbnb issued emblem to show potential short term tenants that these host have their **** together and you can be confident that your stay with them will be a great experience.
Airbnb has figured out that making a rewards system based on performance is the best way to keep
tenants and host in peace which means everyone including Airbnb comes out a winner. Airbnb knows its host are a reflection of itself and it lives or dies by its reputation. The more host to gain the shiny badge the better.
What does it take to get the big shiny badge? Well Airbnb has laid out a clear set of rules that actually makes their host have to earn it. Some people may think this is cruel and unfair but for a business that thrives by reputation of tenants experiences this is really the only way to create fair competition. Since Im a good guy and have spent numerous hours dissecting Airbnb I will fill you in on some of the basics to become a super host. Just kidding i'm good with copy and paste so here are the rules straight from Airbnb themselves: (https://www.airbnb.com/help/article/829/how-do-i-become-a-superhost)
To become a Superhost, you need to have an account in good standing, and over the past year you must have:
Hosted at least 10 trips
Maintained a 90% response rate or higher
Received a 5-star review at least 80% of the time you’ve been reviewed, as long as at least half of the guests who stayed with you left a review
Completed each of your confirmed reservations without canceling
You don’t need to apply to become a Superhost. If you meet the program requirements on the assessment date, you'll qualify for Superhost status. We’ll notify you of your Superhost status at the end of each assessment period—usually 10 days after the assessment begins.
There is a reason that Airbnb has come to prominence so quickly and is really shaking up the housing game. The powers that be are scared because they know their traditional way of life can be threatened by a revolutionary idea. Airbnb has found a way to empower people with their homes much like Uber and Lyft with vehicles. This has led to local governments scrambling to catch with these new innovative models of profit sharing through apps and internet platforms. This is evident with many cities local governments filing lawsuits against companies like Uber, Lyft and Airbnb who is now worth an estimated twenty five billion dollars. Any time new ideas emerge that put the power in the peoples hands the established status quo will challenge. I stand against the status quo and with Airbnb as it begins to force our traditional views of housing to evolve. Who do stand with?
